Nike People

Before Nike people began walking, what did they do — crawl?

(OK, admittedly a comma after People messes up the typography somewhat — but as it stands, the message is ambiguous.)

I would suggest a comma before "People" instead.

Would you please explain what's wrong if I this:

"What did people do? Crawl?"

Sorry -- I'm not quite sure what you were asking. But if it helps, the purpose of my post was to point out that a missing comma made the message ambiguous. The intended meaning was obviously 'Before Nike, people walked' (...but now, they run). Without the comma, however, it is more likely to be interpreted as 'Before people from Nike walked...'.
